On Money and Masses

Chino and I were in Makati Med last Thursday...

C: (coming out of the clinic) I don't have money to pay for the testing.
A: (scoffs) That's one reason why I dislike the Philippines. In Hong Kong and in Canada, healthcare is free. In here, only the rich can afford healthcare. The poor? (sighs) The world runs on money.
C: No, the world runs on love.
A: If that's so, tell me how you can buy food with love?
C: ...
A: (after a while) The world runs on the people [the masses]. Think about it, who makes the medicines for the doctors? Who makes the machines for the hospitals? Aren't they the lowly people?

------

Call me a socialist, but I have a deep empathy with the working class. I am just disgusted at the fact that in this country, there is little the rich is doing. I envision an all-out war on poverty.
